On two Saturdays in May, more than 100 young people from 6th grade and up represented 20 schools in 6 school districts at the new C.C. Woodson Community Center in Spartanburg, SC. The teens were there to attend "The Power of Being Young" where they got "real" about relationships, love, and sex. Al Duncan was the keynote speaker.

"The Power of Being Young" began as an idea during the brainstorm of Spartanburg Local Advisory Council members on how to reach high-priority youth. Molly Chappel-McPhail of BirthMatters and ReGenesis led the effort that included support from Cornerstone Baptist Church, Department of Juvenile Justice, Middle Tyger Community Center, REACH Upstate, SADAC, Southside Unity in the Community, Spartanburg Public Safety Department Office of Victim Assistance, USC Upstate, and Women in Motion. "The Power of Being Young" events were sponsored by the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and ReGenesis HealthCare.
